Can the Aging Process Be Reversed?

Regarding fitness, I’ve been vocal about my support for sports and strength training as viable alternatives to repetitive exercises like treadmill workouts for many years. Iron Man Magazine’s editor-in-chief, Steve Holman, has taken that concept to its logical conclusion with a new body-shaping program designed to slow and even reverse the aging process. But he isn’t the only one fascinated by the idea of aging.  Best way to find the age calculator.

You may have heard of the Real Age Program or one of its founders, Dr. Mehmet Oz. According to Real Age, your actual Age is frequently out of sync with your biological condition. Your body may be aging at a faster rate due to your level of fitness, diet, and other factors. Actual Age calculates your Age based on the state of your body and compares it to your chronological Age. The goal is to improve the body so that its “real age” is equal to or less than one’s biological Age. That, in my opinion, is the foundation of Holman’s approach: return the body to its youthful state before declining fitness and other factors accelerate the aging process.

According to Steve Holman, after the Age of 40, our bodies begin to age at a faster rate than they had previously. According to studies, without the proper nutrients and exercise, our bodies age about six months faster for every year that passes! For example, assume you’re 40 years old. You’ll look and feel 55 by the time you’re 50. You will look and feel 70 years old by the time you reach 60! I’m not sure about you, but that kind of aging does not appeal to me.

Have you ever noticed that people who stay physically active seem to age more slowly than those who don’t? In my mind, I see a 63-year-old woman gardening while her 65-year-old husband chops wood nearby, both of whom appear to be in their 50s. Hmm… that could have been a scene from a 1940s film, but I think it makes the point. They stayed active with muscle-stretching activities and, no doubt, felt and looked younger as a result. According to Steve Holman, 90% of people over 35 lose enough muscle yearly to burn off 4 pounds of body fat. At that point, the aging process really begins to catch up with us. Power gives our bodies shape and strength. We all know that when you lose muscle mass, you gain fat, even if your calorie intake remains constant. As a result, we don’t feel or look as good as we used to. Then we become depressed because we no longer feel or look as good. Then we give up on retaining our youth, and the rest is history. Wow. Wasn’t that depressing?

Not to worry! That does not have to be the case.

Actual Age and Steve Holman both insist that this accelerated aging is reversible. According to them, there are specific ways to move and eat that will slow down the rapid aging process to the point where you’re aging less than a year every year. So we’ll look younger in a few years than we do now? That’s an aging strategy we can get behind, right?

Not so quickly. Is it necessary to purchase drugs, supplements, or expensive supplies? No. There are only food choices and short-duration exercises involved. Steve Holman claims that his years as a fitness magazine editor have allowed him to pick up anti-aging tips, tricks, and strategies. Unfortunately, they also do not include cycling classes or elliptical machines.

To get started, Steve suggests five rules to follow if you want to “slow the aging process, reclaim your health, and achieve your ideal body”:

  1. Forget about low-fat diets. They lead to sugar addiction, which results in fat storage!
  2. Exercise less. Resistance training is done correctly, burns fat, and is a great cardiovascular workout. Sports that work the muscles throughout the body can also be beneficial.
  3. Drink plenty of water. Water helps to burn fat, suppresses hunger, and allows your kidneys to operate under less strain, allowing your liver to burn fat as it should.
  4. Put an end to the endless cardio workouts. Cardiovascular conditioning can be obtained in a fraction of the time and effort. In addition, long-duration according to new research, long-duration exercise accelerates the aging process by increasing free radicals.
  5. These free radicals are scavengers that prey on your body’s essential nutrients and tissues.
Don’t blame your Age for your fitness problems. Men and women of all ages, including those in their 90s, have been shown in studies to gain muscle tone in just a few weeks of simple weight training.

So, those are some excellent starting points for combating the aging process. There’s an old adage that goes, “I want to die as young as possible at as old as possible.” (or something like that). I already follow the five steps, though I admit to not doing enough of #2. So, how about you? I’ve been told I look younger than I am, which is flattering. Now, if only I could stop the aging process and feel younger…
