What to Expect When You’re Expecting by Heidi Murkoff

When you’re expecting, there are a few things to expect. You may experience heightened senses and emotions, morning sickness, cravings for salty foods or sweets, constipation or diarrhea, breast tenderness and swelling, and more. Below is a list of what to expect during your pregnancy month by month.

It’s important to remember that every woman experiences pregnancy differently and that not all symptoms will be present in every woman. If you’re experiencing any discomfort or pain, seeking medical attention is essential.

Here’s a list of the most common symptoms of early pregnancy:

1st Trimester:

The increased appetite (especially for salty foods), fatigue, swollen breasts, and pelvic pressure/pain. Miscarriage rates peak in the first trimester.

2nd Trimester:

Abdominal cramping and bloating, increased urination (which may be due to fluid retention), breast tenderness and enlargement, and mood swings. Miscarriage rates fall in the second trimester but can still occur until 12 weeks gestation.

3rd Trimester:

Most women don’t experience significant changes until the end of the third trimester when they’ll feel Labour-like contractions (sometimes mistaken for Braxton Hicks). Some women also experience nausea, vomiting, high blood pressure (hypertension), headache, chills, and fever. Approximately 50-60% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage at any point during this stage;

When the war ends, and he returns to Afghanistan, Amir finds that his home has been destroyed and most of his family killed. He joins forces with a group of refugees seeking refuge in Pakistan and sets out on a long journey back to Afghanistan to find his father and try to rebuild what’s left of their lives.
